Reason for Selling
Following the birth of my first child in 2023, my personal and professional priorities shifted significantly. As our family prepares to grow again, I have chosen to focus on my family. In addition to these fitness studios, I own and operate several other businesses that require my attention. As a result, I have made the decision to sell all four of my fitness franchise locations and concentrate on family and my other business interests.
Why I Love My Franchise
I became a Pure Barre member in 2009 and immediately fell in love with the workout. I became a teacher in 2013 and a franchise owner in 2018. Today, I still take class 5+ times per week because it remains my favorite workout. Beyond fitness, Pure Barre has given me lifelong friendships and a strong sense of community. I love connecting with members and celebrating their successes. Even after selling, I plan to remain an active Pure Barre member.
About Pure Barre
Pure Barre is a boutique fitness franchise specializing in low-impact, full-body barre workouts delivered in a dedicated studio environment. The method draws from Pilates, yoga, and ballet, using small, precise movements with and without the ballet barre to build strength, endurance, and flexibility across all fitness levels. The brand offers four class formats: introductory, classic barre, interval training, and resistance training, covering programming that serves both newcomers and long-term members.
Founded in 2001, Pure Barre has grown to become the largest barre franchise in North America, with close to 650 studios, over 100,000 active members, and more than 6,000 instructors worldwide. The brand joined Xponential Fitness in 2015, a multi-brand fitness franchisor whose portfolio also includes Club Pilates, YogaSix, and StretchLab. Xponential’s experience and infrastructure inform the support model available to franchisees.
Studios operate on a recurring membership model, with members purchasing monthly passes or class packages. The business requires hiring and retaining qualified barre instructors and a general management team; the franchise structure supports semi-absentee ownership through a hired general manager.
Franchisee Support
Pure Barre franchisees receive initial training comprising 19 classroom hours and 1 hour of on-the-job instruction. Ongoing support includes recurring sales training, monthly calls with dedicated regional sales team members, and KPI report reviews. The franchisor assists with instructor and general manager recruitment, and Xponential Fitness provides additional infrastructure and marketing support across its brand portfolio. Buyers of an existing studio should confirm what transfer training and system access the franchisor provides to incoming ownership.
Brand Accolades & Awards
Pure Barre has maintained consistent placement in Entrepreneur Magazine's Franchise 500, most recently ranking No. 375 on the 2025 list. The brand has received editorial coverage in publications including Inc., Shape, Cosmopolitan, InStyle, The Huffington Post, and The New York Times. As part of Xponential Fitness, Pure Barre operates within a parent portfolio that has received its own recognition for scale and growth across the boutique fitness sector. For resale buyers, the brand's national name recognition supports local marketing and member acquisition.
Industry / Market
The US boutique fitness market was valued at approximately $5.4 billion in 2025, with projected growth at a CAGR of 12.8% through 2032. Demand is driven by consumer preference for specialised, small-group workout formats over traditional gym membership, with barre-style studios among the growing formats in this category. The recurring membership structure typical of boutique fitness aligns with consumer habits around regular, community-centred workouts. For resale buyers, local studio saturation and competition from other boutique fitness concepts are factors worth reviewing alongside any specific acquisition.
Ideal Owner
A strong fit for Pure Barre is someone comfortable managing a team of fitness instructors and sales staff rather than personally delivering the workouts. The owner role centers on recruiting and retaining qualified instructors and a general manager, monitoring membership and revenue metrics, and maintaining a welcoming studio community. Comfort with recurring revenue data (active members, renewal rates, lead conversion) is useful, as membership performance is the primary business lever. Industry-specific fitness experience is not required; the priority is hiring well, leading a team, and supporting a consistent member experience.
